Press Release
SmartWood Program of the Rainforest Alliance Has Certified Mott Manufacturing, LLC to FSC Chain-of-Custody Standards
February 19, 2010
Maxwelton, WV
A little over a year ago Mott purchased a wood casework manufacturing plant from
a respected and well established architectural woodwork company. Our assets were:
- A facility in America’s woodworking heartland
- A team of employees skilled in manufacturing AWI Premium grade casework to specifications
- Mott's history of focusing on a process that works simply, easily, and successfully for our customers
The next step was to totally refurbish the facility with millions of dollars of
state-of-the-art high tech tooling and combine that with traditional Appalachian
craftsmanship which we accomplished in a few short months. From there we fine tuned
our processes and built a resume of projects of which we can all be proud.
Our plan was to be environmentally conscious and responsible from the outset. We
purchased a multi-station roll coat UV flat line finish system that is VOC free
keeping the air pure where our employees live and work. We cemented relationships
with suppliers of No Added Urea Formaldehyde (NAUF) panel products.
Very importantly, we initiated the process to obtain our Forest Stewardship Council
Chain-Of-Custody certification. This allows us to support our customers seeking
LEED Materials and Resources credit MR7, Certified Wood. It also assures customers
not seeking this LEED credit that they can count on us to provide wood supplied
by environmentally responsible foresters, harvesters, and manufacturers.
Today we'd like to announce that Mott is now officially recognized by The Rainforest
Alliance as certified for Forest Stewardship Council Chain-Of-Custody. Our certificate
registration code is: SW-COC-004702
None of this came about easily. It was hard work and much hard work remains as our
team continues its advancement of newer…better…and environmentally friendlier products.
